Today I was reminded of a movie that I really need to see again because of a million reasons. The story is brilliant because of it’s simplicity and complications at the same time, the setting is beautiful and the music… wow. The Straight Story is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Also it’s incidentally one of the few David Lynch movies I actually understand more than enough to like it. Note, again, his crazy thing for filming the stripes in the middle of a road, something I noticed first in Lost Highway (which I saw at 16, perhaps I should watch it again to see if I get it now). I don’t know for sure, but perhaps he considers it to be some sort of trademark.

In this scene Alvin Straight drives his lawnmower out of town to visit his brother who lives in an adjacent state (never mind the Italian, I couldn’t find this scene in English). The two haven’t spoken to each other for many years and he wants to make amends. The music is by Angelo Badalamenti, who convinced me so much by this soundtrack alone that I’d watch any movie featuring him in the soundtrack. I have no words for how beautiful this song is.

Arnicus has released another edition of the Dakterras Sessions: Volume 8!

From the forum:

At last! It took me a good while but I finally managed to tag and upload the new edition of the Dakterras Sessions series. Just like volume 7 I tried to stick to the original idea of the series, chilled out and atmosperic tunes for your enjoyment. Since my collection encompasses lots of Good Looking and Moving Shadow releases, you will find them well represented in this mix. Not a lot of unsigned tunes although I managed to put in a fresh tune by Ashback featuring yours truly, hope you like it.

For the rest it’s a nice blend of old and new atmo tunes, and I have to admit that I’m pretty proud of this one.

So, without further ado:

Arnicus presents the Dakterras Sessions Volume 8 – 69 minutes, 192kbps mp3 audio.

Tracklisting:

01. DJ Addiction – Senses [Good Looking 1997]
02. Source Direct – Shimmer [Oddysey 1994]
03. Oaysis – Outcry [Moving Shadow 1994]
04. ASC – Dreamworld [Outsider 2007]
05. JMJ & Richie – Universal Horn (J Majik Remix) [Moving Shadow 1995]
06. Foul Play Productions – Cuttin’ Loose (Remix) [Moving Shadow 1996]
07. Boymerang – Where It’s At [Regal 1997]
08. Future Engineers – Images [Ascendant Grooves 1999]
09. JMJ & Flytronix – Delusions pt. 2 [Moving Shadow 1996]
10. Ashback ft Arnicus – Memory Loss [Unsigned 2007]
11. Intersperse – Enorasis [Good Looking 2001]
12. Seba & Lo-Tek – Waveforms [Looking Good 2000]
