15-11-2005 – 19:06Ok I’ve got myself a new blog, but one thing isn’t working yet: the RSS feeds page that I want to accompany it. Therefore I’ll link to the old feeds page from the sidebar, until I or anyone else comes up with something better. It won’t look very pretty for the moment though, since my old blog is still in red and yellow.
Otherwise I like the looks of this one. I’ve also decided I’m going to change the purpose of this weblog. Don’t worry, it’ll still be trivial and utterly useless ;)
From now on, however, I’m going to try to turn the items into publishable articles. And then I don’t mean blog-publishing, I mean newspaper/magazine-publishing. I’ve found out that I like one thing more than anything else, and that’s to try my hand at journalism and criticism. I’ve always loved writing readable pieces of work, which are built with strong arguments and are ultimately of interest to the reader. This includes columns, reviews, rants and raves about political, social or literary issues. The whole thing might mean that I will post a lot less, but that all depends on how much I write at a particular moment.
I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to write in Dutch or in English, but I’m thinking I might translate some pieces of work so they’re readable in both languages. Others might be too specific for one language or the other, so you will find out as you read. On the networking side of this matter: I’d like to get a job in journalism and I’ve ended up in the wrong network of friends to get there, so if you have a hint, drop me a line :)
As far as criticism goes, please do comment on my articles if you think there’s anything wrong with them, or if you think they rule. Purely opinion-based comments are also welcome. I’ll use the comments as hints for what I should and shouldn’t do. I got very positive replies on my two column-like pieces of last month, so I know in what direction I have to go. It’ll take shape as I go, and it will be cool. Like me.
