Snowy weekend

My weekend was brilliant! Me and FooBar went on a trip to the Belgian Kempen (as it turned out it wasn’t quite the Ardennen but hey), and everything was paid for by Snow. They had done an excellent job: nice houses, a cardboard box stuffed with food to live on throughout the weekend, lots of fun activities and a nice dinner at the restaurant every evening. On Saturday there were no planned activities so we went to check out a nearby town called Hasselt, which was fun apart from the fact that the shops were basically the same as everywhere else. The mediamarkt proved to be a lot of fun though (Mediamarkt is my candy shop).

Sunday was more eventful: in the morning we did a game of pain(t)ball, something which I’d never done before and looked a lot like Half-Life but then without a half-decent weapon. I got hit three times out of 4 rounds, and one of them is a nasty bruise right now. I felt al combatty and stuff, definitely a nice experience.

Then, in the afternoon, there was the quad-riding. I don’t chicken out very quickly, I ride rollercoasters with relative ease and I even stepped into a kart at the ISP Kartcompetition not so long ago, but this was different. I had barely made it halfway along the track when I knew this wasn’t going to work out for me. The track was very hilly and uneven, and if I steered the wrong way I’d fall over. That wouldn’t have been so bad, had I been able to keep my legs on the quad at all times. However, I kept placing them beside the quad, making it more dangerous for myself and others. I finally did two rounds, and only because I was unable to steer my quad towards the side of the track during the first round. It was scary and I don’t think I’ll ever do it again. Still, at least I can say I tried.

There were some people I knew as well. Thomas, a guy I’d already met at the ISP Kart and who was quite surprised to see me, was there with his wife Marlijne. They stayed in a bungalow with us and a couple we hadn’t met before, Ben and Saskia. Valk was there with his girlfriend and I also saw Webmind again, who could finally see much better after the operation he had on his eyes (yay!). On Sunday, Flar and Deckardt joined for the barbeque, which was more like a buffet supplied with some meat coming from a distant barbeque outside. It did taste good though (apart from the dry hamburgers). A few couples went home that evening, but FooBar and me stayed one more night because we wanted to go shopping on Monday. All the shops in Western Europe were closed, however, so all that was left for us was to have lunch (muchos fine-tasting saté at a restaurant near Maastricht) and go home. That wasn’t all that bad; I was exceedingly tired and could use some sleep in a real bed.

There aren’t many pictures of the weekend, because I forgot about my camera most of the time, but still you can take a looksy here.

  2. Yup…. I had an absolutely fantastic time… we must do this again. The restaurant near Maastricht was ‘Op ‘t Indsje’ in Cadier en Keer, recommendable to anyone in the area ;)
