Update on my internship
28-02-2007 – 16:59Just e-mailed my test translations for U-TRAX. They were quite difficult, this is definitely a job with many challenges! I had to translate four pieces of text. The first was an audio-script concerning a football game, and I had to translate what the sports commentator was saying. Then there was a webtext, which is a (usually marketing-directed) piece of text for the website describing the game, so it contains many adjectives, adverbs and superlatives. The third text was the most difficult by far: from the game The Sims, I was to translate a number of items you can use in a Sim’s home. These items included a ‘Seams Fine Dummy’, and as you can see there is already a pun in those three words. Translating puns and jokes is one of the toughest tasks in translation. The fourth text was a piece of the manual for Disney’s Golf, in which the controls of the menu and the game were explained. This text needs to be accurate, because Sony has a set of directives on how they want the buttons, parts and items translated.
All in all, a tough job, but it was quite doable. the diversity of the texts was very nice, it seems I will never be doing the same work!
If I cross my fingers really badly (ow, ow! oooow!) maybe I’ll get in ^_^

Holy Carp! That sounds rather difficult!
I know I’m not that bad at english, but jobs like those are -way- over my head. I thank Carp every day for the dictionary/thesaurus software that comes standard with Mac OS X, because I really do need them. Else my english would sound way too bland, reusing a lot of words too often.
