Wii replaced

As many of you might know because I only whined about it a million times, my Wii broke about 3 weeks ago. It wouldn’t go past the starting screen, and if it ever tried, the system would hang after that. I doubted which way I should go: send the Wii directly to Nintendo, in which case I’d have to pay money for the packaging service, or go to Mediamarkt and let them deal with Nintendo, which would cost me nothing but take more time. The added drawback to the latter is that any direct contact between me and Nintendo would be impossible, so instead of just dealing with possible morons, I would have to deal with possible morons through other possible morons. No, I’m not that positive where any technical support is concerned. In my eyes, dealing with the support of two companies is a communication error or huge mistake waiting to happen.

I did choose the latter anyway, because I didn’t want to pay for the package, there would be less issues concerning guarantee (Mediamarkt has all of that on record) and it would take me less trouble altogether. The results are not great, but a little better than I’d hoped. After three weeks I called Mediamarkt because the letter they were supposed to send me when the Wii got back wasn’t arriving (logical, if you’re trying to send it to Sir M. Tamis, wrong address and postal code). They told me ‘my Wii’ had arrived, so I went to pick it up. It turned out to be a brand new Wii, apparently my old one was beyond repair.

The good parts are: a) it works b) I got my NES-game Mario 3 back because my shopping channel account was linked to the new friendcode of the Wii, allowing me to download it for 0 points. Major drawback: all my savegames are lost. This includes Guitar Hero (on easy, medium and co-op), Mario Galaxy, Zelda: Twilight Princess and of course Mario 3 (I was in world 5).

So in essence I’m happy to have a new Wii, but not-so-happy to lose 4 months of progress. Perhaps, if I’d dealt with Nintendo myself, that wouldn’t have happened. But at least I should check out now which savegames will fit on an SD card, to prevent it from happening again. And I already beat GH3 on easy again. Anyone wanna help with co-op?

  • so, from now on you’ll put the savegames on a SD card? :)

It’s strange it doesn’t so automatically, but any savegame on SD will be picked up. If we could do the same with downloaded games (speciale Wii Ware games are huge) life would be great.
