Youth sentiment
14-06-2006 – 01:32On irc, MacTijn posted a url which entertained me for at least an hour: a lot of nineties music videos. Halfway through the nineties, I was especially wild about Sash, RMB and all those catchy rave tunes. I watched TMF (The Music Factory - a Dutch music tv channel) every day to see what was the top 5 for that day. Some video’s that aren’t on that page but which I really loved back then:
Dune - Million Miles From Home
DJ Paul Elstak - Rainbow in the Sky
Party Animals - Aquarius (no, I did not know the original version, which is probably why it caught on)
You might not relate to my sentiment, but I was born in 1983 and I first looked at and listened to music videos at the age of 11. So my experiences began in ‘94, a little bit later than most of my friends. This was when I had no idea what the 60s, 70s and 80s had been like, and I liked what I saw on tv. Looking back, I still see why all these tunes were catchy, while I have no idea why people like the music that is played on music channels today. I was so naive, so optimistic. Anyway, check it out, you might have fun while trying to hide from the sometimes horrible images and sounds coming your way ;)

U.S.U.R.A. - Open your mind - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8Clcnq12KQ
Like in your case, this music represents (a big part of) my youth, and it had a big impact on what kind of music I like now, and for me, music is one of the most important things due to my hearing problems.
I’m glad my copy/pasting a link made at least someone happy, I hope it will do the same to others.
and about YouTube: it so totally rocks if you filter out the attention whores… PEOPLE, IT IS NOT MYSPACE!

Whehehe, I can certainly relate to that :) Remember the time that TMF didn’t have any IP check in their web-based top-5 system so that it was possible to spam songs into the top-5?
Great stuff anyway, thnx for the link.

Those are nice songs indeed macTijn :)
r3boot: woo I didn’t know that such a thing was possible… is that why Dune was no. 1 for such a long time?
thx to t3h h@xx0rs! ;)
